The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world to an unprecedented impact, and its ramifications are expected to be long lasting. However, such a volatile environment that the pandemic has triggered could provide us the opportunity to choose a different type of future. Older persons, who have faced specifica and differentiated challenges during the pandemic, will require an imformed, inclusive and targeted responses.

In this regard, UNDESA hosted the Expert Group meeting on Building Forward Better for Older Persons in the Post-COVID-19, on 2-5 March 2021.

The conclusions and recommendations of this expert group meeting will serve to position DESA to better support Member States in the context of two important policy processes:

(a) The implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

(b) The General Assembly open-ended working group for the purpose of strengthening the protection of the human rights of older persons
