With rapid population ageing worldwide, older populations are growing fast, bringing into sharper focus the challenges many older persons face today. Responding to issues prevalent in later life—poverty, isolation, discrimination, abuse, neglect, and ageism—is not only a matter of social welfare; it is a matter of human rights.

ASEM Global Ageing Center (AGAC) is a specialized international institution dedicated to promoting older persons’ rights across all ASEM partner countries, with an emphasis on a human rights-based approach. AGAC’s work spans policy research, global exchange & cooperation, awareness-raising & education, and knowledge-sharing.

Through active partnerships with governments and civil society across the globe, AGAC seeks to address structural discrimination and ageism affecting older persons, while helping ensure that the UN Principles for Older Persons—Independence, Participation, Care, Self-fulfillment, and Dignity—are embedded in the policies and institutions of ASEM partner countries.

Building a society where the rights and dignity of older adults are upheld goes beyond protecting the interests of any one generation; it is a cornerstone of a sustainable and respectful future for people of all ages. We invite you to stay engaged with our work, and we thank you for your continued support and encouragement for AGAC.
